AT&T Wireless.

AT&T is the second wireless network carrier in United States and had reported support for Extended range LTE-700 MHz as early as September 2013. According to the carrier, the rollout would be followed by interoperability support and Band 12 compatible handsets. Earlier, AT&T had referred to the adoption of Band-12 as unnecessary and expensive. By March 2015, AT&T had started working with a number of carriers across U.S. to meet its promise of supporting interoperability between Band 12 and Band 17 within the 700 MHz frequency. For AT&T customers, interoperability and support gives them a chance to roam on other extended range LTE-700 MHz carriers such as U.S. Cellular and T-Mobile.

T-Mobile.

While AT&T changed its mind on the viability of Band 12, T-Mobile had its mind fixed on it and remains arguably the king of extended range LTE-700 MHz within US. In the past few years, T-Mobile has engaged in aggressive expansion campaign to spread its network across the nation. LTE bands were on top of that list and naturally, the 700 MHz Band 12 LTE.

Between February 2017 and January 2018, T-Mobile has vastly extended its LTE network across the nation. For instance, T-Mobile was reported to have acquired three critical licenses within the 700 MHz band covering entire Montana area. By April 2017, the T-Mobile deployment of the 700 MHz Band12 LTE network was concluded, covering over 269 million individuals.

In July 2017, T-Mobile applied for the acquisition of additional licenses for the Colorado Valley, TX before it was concluded on September 2017. In Marianna, FL T-Mobile was able to deploy extended range LTE-700 MHz through WBIF, which was FCC approved by August 2017. In January 2018, it was also reported that T-Mobile was in talks with US Cellular to acquire licenses for Michigan's Western Upper Peninsula and Western Kansas to reach over 500k users.

To prepare for extended range LTE-700 MHz rollout and adoption, T-Mobile started offering Android tablets, hotspot devices and all phones compatible with Band 12 in 2016. T-Mobile also released a BYOD Check App allowing users to key in (or use scanner feature) IMEI numbers of their phones to know if they are compatible with 700 MHz B-12 LTE.

In Canada, a number of carriers and their subsidiaries have already adopted the extended range LTE-700 MHz frequency. These include:

  • Bell Mobility.
  • Chatr Wireless.
  • NorthernTel (Bel Aliant).
  • Public Mobile.
  • Rogers Wireless.
  • Telus Mobility.
  • Videotron Mobile.

  • This sounds like another amazing advance in signal boosters. Here’s my question. I don’t have problems with a thick wall but rather with my home’s windows. At least that’s what I think. Is there any method for testing to see if my poor cell signal is due to a wall or a window?

  • One correction, in Canada the Chatr brand only utilizes Rogers’ HSPA network, it doesn’t have the LTE band 12/700MHz access.

  • My Google machine comes up with some strange stuff. I am looking for a cell phone booster and inadvertently typed in “T Mobile Signal Booster” only to come up here. It’s all good because these boosters works for a variety of cell phone carriers. That’s the beauty of these boosters, you don’t have to buy one for Verizon then buy one for T Mobile if you switch. One size does fit all.

  • There were questions about the best T-Mobile phones in 2017, but I’m also considering what are the best cell phone boosters. No matter how what brand I get, I have trouble making calls without them being dropped. A cell phone booster seems to be my best option and while I’d love a T-Mobile signal booster for free, I don’t mind shelling out some cash for one that helps me get maximum speed and call power.

  • Someone asked me, “What is band 12?” and I thought they were talking about some new Netflix show. I looked into it and found it’s the 700 MHz Band 12 LTE frequency that makes for more efficient cell phone signals, particularly in suburban and rural areas. While not all cell phone carriers seemed to realize its potential, T-Mobile seems to have done so. Throw in a cell phone booster and you have a cell phone that can make clear calls without worrying about dropped calls.
