It is the 1st standalone 2 hr. fire-proof cable specifically for in-building use that does not require metal conduit or excessive wrapping to protect itself. It is UL 2196 Certified for safer, faster, easier installations. This is a revolutionary innovation because it resolves critical industry challenge by saving lives.

Rolled in a reel or spool, it is available in lengths from 2 ft. to 1000 ft. Impedance: 50 Ohm. This ultra low loss cable means that it incurs a very low signal loss of under 1dB. Connectors are not included. All of them appear red or orange per individual's color perception. Available in all sizes from small 2 feet to 1000 feet long. Choose the size you need from the drop-down menu provided above.

This cable is a 2-hour burn cable, and it falls under survivability cable category. Cables like these can be used inside building or outside buildings. They enable perfectly secure connections between an amplifier to both indoor or outdoor antennae, taps, splitters or surge protectors. These fire proof cables have 1/2 inch thickness diameter and are LMR-600 equivalent (if you’re familiar with those).

They are ideal for use with any in-building cell phone signal booster amplifier system. The cable sizes 2 ft., 10 ft., 20 ft., 30 ft., 50 ft., 60 ft., 75 ft., 100 ft., 500 ft., 1000 ft., do not come with connectors. All size cables are weatherproof, heat shrunk, and tested.

Being the first two-hour fire-rated coaxial cable without metal conduit or restrictive wrapping, it will help protect mission-critical public safety communications. This standalone half-inch fireproof coaxial cable for in-building installations, constructed without metal conduit or excessive wrapping, fully complies with the strict UL 2196 Certification test.

  • This cable, without any supporting conduit or excessive wrapping, has proven to effectively transmit radio-frequency signals for a minimum two-hour burn at temperatures up to 1832° F (1000° C); including surviving the cold water spray test.
  • It allows for effective public safety and cellular radio communications to, and from any floor of a burning building. This fireproof cable ensures that both building occupants and emergency responders have access to this critically important capability when high-rise buildings are on fire.
  • It is the only in-building coaxial cable that is CMP (Communications Multipurpose) Plenum-Certified. Other in-building coaxial cables are "compliant", not certified. This is fully certified for use in environmental air handling space in buildings.
  • It does not include nor require extensive wrapping, and does not require conduit. The reduced weight and cable size means that installation is dramatically simplified and accelerated.
  • It stays thin and flexible: full 7 inches bending radius is maintained at all times.
  • Due to its unique design, installation is quick and easy, particularly in older buildings and smaller spaces.
  • This cable uses standard installation techniques and standard connectors. No specific expertise is required for installation and no specialized parts are required.

Proven to Successfully Transmit RF Signals in Dangerous Fire Conditions.

There're number of jurisdictions in United States that require in-building cables to have a UL 2196 Certification. In order to receive a UL 2196 Certification, coaxial cables in buildings must be able to continue transmitting radio-frequency signals during excessive heat up to 1832 Degrees Fahrenheit (1000 Degrees Centigrade) for two hours, and continue operating after being cooled down suddenly with cold water from a firehose.

A Step Above All Other In-Building Communications Cables.

In the past, fire-protected in-building cables were wrapped extensively in fire resistant materials or shielded in metal conduit. Whilst effective, these protective measures increased cost, weight, and cable size. In addition, the cable's bending radius was reduced, thus making installation more time-consuming, difficult, and expensive; particularly in situations where existing buildings are being modernized to conform to the UL 2196 standard.

This cable, however, does not require conduit or extensive wrapping. Despite being fireproof and half an inch in diameter, it maintains its full 7 inches bend radius. These factors dramatically accelerate, simplify, and reduce costs for installing fire resistant communications cables. In addition, with the cable being only half an inch in diameter, standard connectors can be used in installation.

Its identifying bright red color clearly shows anyone working on building wiring that this is a mission-critical communications cable.

A Key Communications Challenge Resolved.

Currently without this product, the solutions have been:

  • Communications cable in conduit in concrete.
  • 2-hour burn soffits.
  • 3M wrap option.

All of above have been extremely cost intensive, and labor intensive. Thanks to this fire-rated coaxial cable, cost has been minimized, and labor effort reduced. This results in faster and lower cost installations. First responders now have vitally important communications capabilities during severe fires in high-rise buildings; this is especially critical where people may be trapped on floors above the fire.

SignalBooster.com is extremely proud of this innovative heatproof and waterproof coaxial cable that has been successful in passing the challenging UL 2196 certification test. SignalBooster.com realized that telecom industry needed effective communications in burning buildings and were determined to meet the challenge. It is the perfect in-building communications solution for today and into the future. This innovative heatproof coaxial cable simply adds to our wide range of wireless industry leading plenum-rated ICA cables for indoor use.

ETL listed to UL 444, such indoor coaxial cables are renowned for meeting key fire safety standards, including CPR, CATVP and CMP. Their cables also meet Canadian CSA C.22.2/FT6 standards. This innovative coaxial cable has been designed specifically to enhance and protect mission-critical communications for both occupants and first responders in burning buildings.

Only One of Its Kind.

This is the only in-building coaxial cable that meets NFPA 72 Survivability standards and is UL 2196 certified. It is capable of operating during severe heat and extreme stress whilst successfully transmitting high-frequency signals. It has been proven to withstand temperatures reaching 1,832 Deg. F (1,000 Deg. C) for no less than two hours and not be affected by the sudden temperature drop when cooled by cold water.

Its unique design eliminates the use of extensive wrapping and conduits, thus reducing both the weight and size of the cable while still retaining a full bending radius. When compared to other fireproof cables, this innovative product delivers a streamline installation and lower costs.

Today, this heatproof coaxial cable with no padding and extra protection is the only one available on the market that is UL 2196 certified. Now, first responders are able to maintain continuous contact with building occupants and each other, as they work to extinguish fires and save lives.

Fire Safety for First Responders and Building Occupants.

Unfortunately, fires in high-rise buildings do occur, and maintaining communication in buildings has always been a challenge for first responders. While standards are always changing in an endeavour to improve communications, up until this point there has never been a stand-alone solution that adequately fills this need. SignalBooster.com has done just that: they knew what the telecommunication industry was looking for, and they offer this to protect everyone concerned. Dragon Skin cable:

When RFS realized the overall need and Public Safety urgency for a coaxial cable that was capable of tolerating the two-hour burn requirement, it rose to the challenge. Now, following three years of engineering, developing, and testing of its new product, RFS is extremely proud to introduce DragonSkin cable. This coaxial cable is validated with UL 2196 Certification and fully conforms to National Fire Protection Association 72 requirements.

When using DragonSkin, installers and integrators can effectively meet local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) pathway survivability obligations.

DragonSkin is especially effective in new buildings when conduit laid in concrete is unable to fully extend to all required locations. In addition, with DragonSkin being a half-inch cable size with a six-inch bend radius, it is the only practical cable choice when an existing building is being retrofitted.

DragonSkin: Protecting Both Emergency First Responders and the Public.

First responders who attended after the shocking attack on the World Trade Centre in September 2001 had neither reliable nor sufficient communications within the huge buildings, and this was because modern building materials and techniques effectively degrade or block cell phone and radio coverage. The urgency for (DAS) Distributed Antenna System solutions dramatically intensified after 9/11.

DAS solutions were developed to deliver sufficient radio signals in areas where there is insufficient radio-frequency coverage. To achieve the required coverage, a network of antennas is installed, supported by a repeater network. In 2007, the National Fire Protection Association passed an ordinance (which was revised in 2010 and then again in 2013 (NFPA 72) requiring that radio coverage must be provided to all new buildings to ensure that both tenants and first responders have adequate, reliable radio coverage should an emergency occur.

Then in 2009, the International Fire Code enacted Section 510, which was later updated, specifying clear guidelines regarding radio coverage for emergency responders. Many states in the US have either adopted, or will soon adopt, codes that specifically apply to first responders. To check the codes for your area you should contact your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

NFPA Ordinance (NFPA 72).

The NFPA 72 Ordinance covers the following:

  • The application, installation, performance, location, testing, inspection, and maintenance of fire alarm systems.
  • Supervising station alarm systems, fire warning equipment, public emergency alarm reporting systems, and emergency communications systems (ECS), and their components.

Today, the NFPA 72 has been adopted as a standard by federal, state, and local municipalities to enforce fire code regulations. Municipalities will typically adopt revisions of the code following periods of amendments and reviews, which means that many local fire codes are created specific for a governing authority.

Explaining Pathway Survivability Requirements for NFPA 72.

12.4.1 Level 0 Pathway Survivability.

With Level 0 there are no requirements for pathway survivability.

12.4.2 Level 1 Pathway Survivability.

With Level I, and in accordance with NFPA 13, pathways in buildings must be completely protected by an automatic sprinkler system, covering cables, interconnecting conductors, and any other physical pathways that may be installed in metal raceways.

12.4.3 Level 2 Pathway Survivability.

Level 2 consists of at least one of the following:

  • 2-hour fire-rated protected area or other enclosure.
  • 2-hour electrical circuit protective system/fire-rated cable system.
  • 2-hour fire-resistive cable or fire-rated circuit integrity (CI).
  • Performance alternatives preapproved by the AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction).

12.4.4 Level 3 Pathway Survivability.

Level 3 includes pathways in buildings that, in accordance with NFPA 13, are fully protected by an automatic sprinkler system, and include at least one of the following:

  • 2-hour fire-rated protected area or other enclosure.
  • 2-hour electrical circuit protective system/fire-rated cable system.
  • 2-hour fire-resistive cable or fire-rated circuit integrity (CI).
  • Performance alternatives pre-approved by the AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction).

Explaining How NFPA 72 Requirements Are Supported by UL2196.

The purpose behind the UL 2196 standard is to determine the integrity of control, power, data cables, and instrumentation, to ensure that when they are subjected to the standard fire test and associated hose stream test, they have the ability to retain circuit integrity.

Resolving the 2-Hour Public Safety Burn Challenge.

Both power and control wiring require a two-hour fire barrier, which can be shielded in one of the following ways:

  • 2-hour burn soffits.
  • Conduit containing communications cable laid in concrete.
  • The 3M-wrap method; or
  • RFS DragonSkin solution.

Why DragonSkin Is the Superior Resolution?

  • DragonSkin cable is the first communications cable to achieve UL 2196 certification.
  • Without conduit or extensive wrapping, this innovative cable is capable of surviving temperatures of up to 1000°C (1850°F) , including the cold water spray test, for a period of two hours.

Note: For any signal booster to help, outside signal strength must be at least -110 dB or there must be a clear line of sight to a cell tower that is within twenty miles. Before ordering, please check outside signal level in decibels or ensure that you can make and hold a phone call at any good spot outside where you can mount an exterior antenna. Square footage stated in signal booster listings is based on good signal outside. If it is any weaker, the boosted sq. ft. area will be considerably lower, accordingly.

Kevin K. of Anderson, California gave the following review:

Website is easy to use with plain straight forward info but could have had more on testing signal strength to make sure you get a strong enough booster.

Therefore, please note that stated sq. ft. coverage is based on good signal outside. For best results: If outside signal is weak, we suggest choosing the next higher sq. ft. coverage kit. If outside signal is very weak, we suggest choosing the kit with even more higher sq. ft. range bracket. Basically, higher the sq. ft. bracket, the more powerful the signal amplifier with greater Gain as well as higher uplink and downlink output power.

If outside signal is too weak (weaker than -110 dB), submit request for cell coverage solution assessment. Upon receipt of questionnaire, we will perform residential or business site survey. This will help us determine the system that is needed to improve cell coverage. Then, we will create system design using that system such as femtocell, active or hybrid distributed antenna system (DAS), or other carrier feed signal enhancing method available that will work at your signal-challenged location. Finally, we will schedule for installation after equipment and installation service quote has been approved by you, or your company.

For non installation-included kits: Most home / office / building cell signal booster kits only include bracket to mount exterior antenna on outside wall, edge of roof, or existing pipe up to 2 inches in diameter. Mounting pole not included with most kits, unless stated specifically that it is included for free. Therefore, a mounting post must be purchased separately if you will require it to mount exterior antenna.
